Earth is not a Spinning Ball
Where do we live? What is under our feet? It turns out we're walking on shaky ground.
Imagine a child who is told that he was conceived in the backseat of a car, with one partner looking out for peeping toms and police patrols. Conceived in fear. Completely unplanned — an act of pure lust and guilt. The child later learns that he was born an accident.
Now imagine another child — one created in an act of love, in the comfort and safety of a warm marital bed. Whose birth was a much-awaited and rejoiced event in the lives of his parents and their families. A child who has been told that he is a gift from the universe to the world.
What would be the difference in the mindset and worldview of these two children?
Now scale that question to an entire species.
Imagine the worldview of a civilization that has been told it is the consequence of a cosmic accident called the Big Bang. That the very ground beneath their feet — solid, still, and firm — is actually a spinning ball hurtling around the sun, wobbling on its axis, while careening through a void littered with other luminaries. What does that origin story do to the human psyche? What does it do to our sense of place, purpose, and belonging?
Cosmology, by its very nature, is spiritual. You would assume it belongs to the domain of religion and philosophy. But the cosmology we have been handed comes not from the sacred, but from science — more precisely, from scientism — delivered through pop culture vehicles like the TV series Cosmos and validated by the priesthoods of institutional authority.
We are taught to believe in a spinning ball fantasy: oceans bending around a globe, civilization clinging to the outside of a sphere moving over a million miles per hour through an endless void. We are told it has all been measured, mapped, and proven. Yet none of this proof is observable, measurable, or repeatable in any direct sense. It is a La La Land propped up by CGI composites, appeals to authority, and mathematics divorced from lived reality.
Consider NASA’s famous Blue Marble. It is not a photograph — it is a composite image. NASA calls it an “image” for a very specific reason. The same reason you would never call your wedding photographs “wedding images.” Words matter. And so does the distinction.
Then there is Neil DeGrasse Tyson, the most prominent spokesperson for the heliocentric model, who has publicly stated that the Earth is not round — it is pear-shaped. Make of that what you will.
Finding the Truth Through Neti-Neti
Although science rarely admits it, there are enormous questions it still cannot answer definitively. There is a deep human tendency to feel more comfortable living with a convenient lie than sitting with honest uncertainty. But sometimes the most intellectually courageous thing we can do is say: We just don’t know.
When we examine the available evidence and trust our own senses — limited as they are, they remain accurate within our direct experience — many arrive at the conclusion that the current cosmological model is simply incorrect. And crucially, we do not need a fully formed replacement model to reach that conclusion.
Arthur Conan Doyle wrote: “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
This is not merely a clever detective’s maxim. It is an expression of an ancient Vedic philosophical method called Neti Neti — “not this, not that” — a process of discovering truth by systematically eliminating what is false. By ruling out the impossible, we narrow the field until only the true remains. This same method appears across traditions: as the Socratic method, and in theology as apophasis.
Applying this method to our cosmological model is not radical. It is rigorous.
Heliocentrism — and its companion theory, gravity — are foundational to the consensus cosmological paradigm. Yet physicists rarely acknowledge that every observation attributed to heliocentrism could also be accommodated within a geocentric model. Mainstream science’s origin story of the cosmos appears designed, above all else, to ensure that humanity does not believe it occupies a special place in the universe. We have grown so accustomed to heliocentrism that we struggle to even imagine Earth at the center — despite the fact that our direct, lived experience is precisely that: the luminous bodies in the sky move around us, and Earth feels utterly still beneath our feet.
Albert Einstein himself said: “I have come to believe that the motion of the Earth cannot be detected by any optical experiment.”
The Voices Challenging the Consensus
This is not a fringe populated only by eccentrics. A growing number of credentialed thinkers are publicly questioning the standard model.
Steven A. Young, who holds a Master of Science and a PhD in theoretical physics, came out as a Globe Skeptic in his 2024 book, A Fool’s Wisdom. He writes:
“I came to a place of 100% knowing that our world is not a planet spinning through space. I may not know 100% what it is, but I know 100% what it is not — and it’s not a spinning ball.”

Mark Gober, a Princeton graduate and board member of the Noetic Sciences Institute, challenges the consensus in his book: An End to the Upside Down Cosmos — Rethinking the Big Bang, Heliocentrism, the Lights in the Sky, and Where We Live.
And then there is the original giant, Nikola Tesla, who said:
“Earth is a realm, it is not a planet. It is not an object; therefore, it has no edge. Earth would be more easily defined as a system environment. Earth is also a machine — it is a Tesla coil. The sun and moon are powered wirelessly with the electromagnetic field, the Aether. This field also suspends the celestial spheres with electromagnetic levitation. Electromagnetic levitation disproves gravity, because the only force you need to counter is the electromagnetic force, not gravity. The stars are attached to the Firmament.”
The Motion We Are Told We Cannot Feel
According to the standard heliocentric model, you are moving right now — in multiple directions simultaneously, and at extraordinary speeds:

Axial rotation: Earth spins on its tilted axis (23.5°) at roughly 1,000 miles per hour at the equator — faster than the speed of sound (767 mph). This speed varies by latitude, slowing toward the poles, where it approaches zero.

Multiple wobbles: Earth exhibits axial precession, nutation, libration, and polar motion — including the Chandler Wobble and Annual Polar Motion.

Orbit around the sun: 66,616 miles per hour. Einstein’s theory of relativity describes this as a constant state of free fall.

Orbit around the Milky Way: 514,000 miles per hour.

Movement through the expanding universe: 1,342,000 miles per hour. You read that correctly — over one million miles per hour.
For reference, Earth’s equatorial circumference is 24,901 miles, its radius is 3,959 miles, and the sun is said to be 93 million miles away, with Earth on a continuous orbital trajectory through the fabric of space-time.
We feel none of this motion. Not a single mile per hour of it. We experience pure stationarity. If scientists had never told us we were moving, every one of us would trust our senses and conclude that we live in a still, stationary place. We feel the slightest turbulence on an airplane, the gentlest bump in a car, the subtle sway of a boat. Our bodies are exquisitely sensitive instruments. Yet somehow, not one of those million-plus miles per hour registers anywhere in our experience.
